March Object of Interest – The Cosmic Horseshoe

About this image

This is my attempt at this month's object of interest. The Cosmic Horsehoe is extremely faint at mag 20 and although I caught the foreground galaxy LRG 3-757 I failed to record the horseshoe (the lensed galaxy). This is a negative image with a colour inset showing the rare luminous red galaxy which shows exteme infrared emission. The galaxy core is noticeably red in the image although was not visible in individual subs.

Nice try!

I am sure you can manage the horseshoe but you will need much more than 40 minutes exposure. Two or three hours should be enough.
