About this image

Abell 22 is a faint bipolar planetary nebula in the constellation Canis Minor.
It has a very unusual morphology, with a rectangular core and 4 faint outer lobes arranged rectangularly. It has a high dynamic range - the core being much brighter than the lobes. The outer lobes only have Ha emission, whereas there is faint OIII emission in the core. The core has an overall size of 125 arc seconds, with the outer lobes extending to around 4 arc minutes.
