About this image

This mag. 11.8 face-on spiral galaxy was discovered by William Herschel in February 1789.

The image shows a bright nucleus surrounded by a fainter disk but with little or no sign of spiral structure. The Unistellar was slightly off-axis so the image is not a sharp as desired. I should have re-checked the tripod level . . .

Distance c.101million ly. Diameter c.75,000 ly.

Moon waning gibbous, 16 days old, 97%.
