About this image
A fairly deep Gyulbudaghian's nebula image from one of the shortest nights of the year - theres no way I'm having the summer off observing just because it gets dark late. Not obviously different to Mike Harlow's nice image from the day before.
Had intended to get about 30 minutes imaging done and get an accurate PV Cephei brightness (Nick James recorded it as 17.9 a few days ago), but I ended up using the whole night - or all the time when the background count stayed below 2800 counts and the sky gradients were minimised. It was interesting watching how the sky brightness changed through the night. I started imaging about 23:00 but ended up throwing those early frames away as - even with half decent sky gradient removal - the nebula was less obvious.
The sky was starting to brighten as I closed down.
Edit: I measured PV cep as mag 17.5 but with an error bar of approx 0.15mag. Which might suggest the drop in brightness has halted.
