Title

Venus daytime night side experiments

About this image

I've been continuing my experiments to work out the best combination for detecting the night side in the favourable elongation for the Northern hemisphere in September.   BAA colleagues have been able to detect the night side after sunset this elongation, although opportunities are reducing as it dips lower by sunset.  Unfortunately for me it dips behind my house from the observatory long before sunset!  This has however allowed me to experiment with filters and equipment when Venus is higher in the sky - the night side can be detected but detail is difficult as there is both daytime glare washing out the image and artefacts caused by the extreme processing to see the night side combined with so much daylight before sunset.

I now know my best combination (I think!) but here are some images comparing process and filters but not using the reducer that I will add to the chain when the time comes!

i share your frustration of Venus dipping out of sight! But your work will be a good basis when it appears in the morning.
