About this image

Last night (Oct 22/23) was remarkably dark and transparent here in Chelmsford through to around 0300 UTC. My telescope image photometry was about as good as good as it gets and my sky was 19.1 mag/arcsec^2 for a field at an altitude of 70 deg. I don't often get nights like this.

This is a fairly deep image of Hubble's Variable Nebula. The main image is a log stretch showing detail in the nebula with the bright, variable star R Mon at the southern tip. The inset shows the same image in negative with an aggressive stretch to show the extent of the nebula.
