NGC 2274 Elliptical Galaxy in Gemini

About this image

NGC2274 (mag. 13.0  elliptical galaxy in Gemini, distance c.225million ly, diameter c.120,000ly.) with 2275 above (mag. 14.0 spiral galaxy, distance c.225million ly). Both were discovered by William Herschel in October 1786 and appear to be interacting. Both galaxies outer regions appear distorted.

To the right, seen more faintly, is PGC19586, a mag. 15.0 barred spiral ring galaxy at a distance of c.240million ly. Diameter c.70,000ly.

The tiny group of three, very close stars at lower left is NGC2277.
