About this image
The tail rays and inner coma features visible in the long stack here are shown to be in motion in this timelapse. Each frame of the timelapse is 5x60s long, stacked on the comet's motion and processed using a Larson-Sekanina filter. This enhances radial features. The ion tail rays behind the coma can be seen to be rotating tailwards as the Solar wind pushes the ions away from the coma. Some motion is also visible in the inner coma.
Animations such as this show that long exposures will blur the finer ion tail features since the motion can be quite rapid.
