Ptolemy Cluster in Scorpius

About this image

In my teen years in southern Iraq, I used to admire this rich patch of stars near the "stinger" of Scorpius, when my small town was almost Bortle 2 (now 8). This is the first time I've captured it with a telescope from southern Morocco. The dark nebulae in the field add even more beauty to the scene.

Apparently, Messier 7 was used for first light image of the Long Range Reconnaissance Imager (LORRI) telescope on the Pluto-bound New Horizons spacecraft in 2006.
