Title

Corona Australis Reflection Nebulae

About this image

A stunning region within the constellation Corona Australis (Dec -36°).

The 2 stars with overlapping diffraction spikes, along with other hot stars, illuminate 3 reflection nebulae creating the striking blue filaments.

You can also see NGC 6729, a butterfly-shaped variable nebula (similar to Hubble's variable) powered by the irregular variable star, R Coronae Australis (R CrA). Underneath it a strange-looking shape, both objects enlarged in the insets.

Of course, the prominent Chandelier globular cluster stands dominant. What a field teeming with targets!

Hi-Res HERE.

Nicely done. The Herbig-Haro object (HH 100) that you have highlighted is pretty faint.

Thanks Grant for pointing out the name of this object, which I wasn’t aware of before.
