About this image

I wasn't sure how this one would turn out but this is my attempt at M17, the Omega Nebula in Sagittarius from 6 August 2024 at 23:32 UT. It was taken from the North York Moors on a clear but windy night. In addition to the wind blowing my rig around, this target is very low down from this part of the world, so I was photographing it through the murk. Also, my DSLR is unmodified, so I wasn't sure how much of the nebula it would pick up. In the end I had to fairly heavily process the resulting stacked image to get the nebula. I'm pretty pleased with it though.

A fine image. I do like it when you can see a deep sky object set within the context of its field.
