David Basey was right - the forecast of complete cloud all week turned out to be wrong! I had another problem, all my permanent garden observing kit is blocked to SW and W by our house. I have a Dwarf II smart telescope but there was nowhere I could balance it where it had enough of a view of the night sky to calibrate, so in the end I used an upstairs bedroom, wedged an Alt-Az tripod I use for outreach in a corner of the bedroom, connected up my 70 mm scope I use for solar work and opened the bedroom window and hoped I could line up. I used my iPhone to snap the night sky first to estimate where I needed to hunt for the comet then a bit like using binos just scanned the sky until I found it. Difficult to do long exposures as I wasn't tracking so settled for short videos and then manually stacked them later.
