About this image
By no means the best image of Saturn, but it was possible to show both Mimas (13.5m) and Tethys (10.9m) from the same picture.
This is an RGB composite processed in two ways to bring out both the bright planet and the faint satellites. The method was as follows:-
1). Process the RGB composite for the planet as normal.
2). Reprocess the composite in Registax heavily ramping up the sharpening (I used level 2). This increases the brightness difference between the satellites and the sky making them visible.
3). Paste this processed image into a separate layer above the 'good' planet image in Photoshop Elements.
4). Erase everything in the satellite layer that is not satellites. Result as above.
I find it remarkable that it is possible to record 13.5m satellites with an exposure of only 35ms.
I've also tried to adjust the colour balance to reflect the yellowish colour seen through the eyepiece.
