About this image

I screwed up when taking this image. The DS section's objects of interest for 2025 January were NGC 1924, IC 412 and IC 413. Due to a typo I ended up imaging IC 414 instead. IC 414 is a not particularly photogenic galaxy, even in the DSS2 images, and looks a lot like an elongated star with a little "fuzz" to the north. However, there is a much fainter elliptical galaxy to its north east, catalogued as 3234691465785234176 in the GAIA DR-3 release.  GAIA has it with a g magnitude of 21.2.  It appears in VizieR in a couple of other catalogues at a R or r' magnitude of around 19.5.

In the image above, IC 414 is inside the blue circle and does not look at all pretty because the processing was optimized for the fainter galaxy.

Oh well. 20th magnitude galaxies are exceedingly common but it is still nice to be able to image them with relatively limited equipment.
