About this image

After fifty years I have finally 'discovered' Jupiter!

This image is the best 25% of a c21K frame video of 2.5m duration.

Christophe Pellier has discussed derotating with Autostakkert! as an alternative to using Winjupos. I find that using Winjupos on the video takes literally hours on my laptop so I have gone for the AS!4 option. I have gone beyond the amount he recommends but the result seems OK. By way of experiment a couple of weeks ago I tried both approaches on the same video and processed them identically in Registax. The two resulting images were pasted into Photoshop layers and the blending mode set to difference. This showed that the two images were identical.

A couple of points though:

1). The image should have plenty of detail for AS!4 to grab hold of.

2). I suspect that while this approach is fine in normal seeing, on truly fine nights the Winjupos route would win out.
