About this image

Perseid meteor rates are steadily increasing as we approach their maximum on August 12, although it coincides with an almost Full Moon - see John Mason's comprehensive article on this year's Perseid return:

Difficult Conditions for the Perseid Shower This Year – British Astronomical Association

Meteors can streak anywhere across the night sky, so during Moonlit periods it can be advantageous to turn your back to the Moon and look northwards. This image of a mag -1.9 Perseid shows that the Plough and north polar region aren't a wasteland for meteor observing.
