About this image

The Egg Nebula (resembling and egg-timer rather than an egg) is the Deep Sky Section's September 'Object of Interest'. The CRL designation refers to the USAF Cambridge Research Laboratories.

This PIRATE image shows the nebula as two asymmetric fuzzy lobes separated by a dark band which obscures the light from the central star.
