About this image

The first aurora alert came about 18:00 UT with a strength of 380.8 nT on the Aurora Watch magnetometer. This rose to 560.2 nT at 19:00 and then fell back to 218.6 nT at 20:00. I thought initially that the moonlight would drown out what I would be able to see. I started observing at 19:11 UT and carried on till 19:21 UT but the aurora looked quite weak at that stage. I went out again at 19:46 and the whole thing had picked up considerably and carried on for the next 11 minutes.
