This spectacular mag. 10.3 edge-on spiral galaxy was discovered by William Herschel in May 1788. Dimensions are rather uncertain, but distance c.50million ly, size c.165-170,000 ly.

This PIRATE image reveals a rather inconspicuous nucleus embedded in an extensive disk.
