About this image

Heres a light curve for 2025-010D using very short exposures last night. The rocket body was 18 degrees from the waning gibbous Moon and will be just 10 degrees away tonight. On the morning of the 5th August it will hit the moon somewhere near Einstein - unfortunately daytime from the UK. Due to the short exposure, low altitude and bright sky the magnitudes are very iffy below 17th.

For anyone attempting observations tonight, the headlines were: the brightest flare I saw was 13 magnitude, but most observations were 15th magnitude or fainter - and it will be fainter tonight as its solar elongation drops. Which is unfortunate, as the sky background will be much stronger. Clean optics essential ... A target for people who like a challenge and are willing to get up early.
