About this image

This great structure and the observations made with it were summarised in Janice McClean's Presidential Address on 2026 Oct 28.

In mid-June the Society for the History of Astronomy held its summer picnic in the grounds of Birr Castle, including a guided tour of the Castle and on subsequent days we visited the prehistoric passage tombs at Newgrange and Knowth, and also Dunsink observatory.
