My interest in astronomy started when I was very young and I soon became fascinated by the Moon and planets, the objects I could see well through my father’s small home-made refractor from the suburban skies of north London.
I have been a continuous member of the British Astronomical Association since joining at the age of 18 in 1972. My passion was for lunar and planetary photography in those days. I promptly joined the Lunar Section where I took an active part in the mid 1970s helping with the distribution of the monthly circular.
I subsequently taught Design and Technology for thirty years and for most of this time, organised regular astronomy evenings for all members of the school who were interested. I also taught Astronomy to GCSE level for several years.
After retiring, I was retained by my school as ‘resident astronomer’ and STEM ambassador for several years, promoting astronomy in the form of regular illustrated talks and observing evenings to pupils, parents, staff and local youth groups.
With a developing passion for imaging, I joined Loughton Astronomical Society in 2013 and became involved in an active observing programme together with promoting astronomy at public events. I later became curator of the Society’s instruments and involved in organising the popular Autumn Equinox Star Party at Kelling Heath in Norfolk. I also co-authored the Springer book, 'Stargazing Under Suburban Skies' with two other Society members.
My wife and I moved to Shropshire in 2018 where I later joined Shropshire Astronomical Society and become part of their outreach programme through STEM. I now benefit from active membership of two societies!
I currently enjoy imaging at every opportunity with my modified DSLR and William Optics 132 APO refractor from my small garden observatory under the dark skies of Shropshire and present a few of my humble images here.
