Alan White
Observer for many years on and off. I started observing in the mid 1980's properly. My interest in observation, ignited by my father in the late 60's and into the 70's with Lunar observing. Interest in space exploration and space engineering more than the science part. Double Stars, Brighter Deep Sky, Planetary and Lunar observing all hit the spot for me. I have spent a lot of time observing Venus and have slowly started to see some detail. My eye has been trained and my patience level enhanced over the year. I have also developed a taste for White Light Solar Observation, I use a Lunt Herschel Wedge and Baader Continuum Filter. I sketch my observations in a very average way, but this concentrates my mind and observing. Blighted by very local light pollution from next doors many spot lights, but remain observing within the limitations. Visit darker skies with CPAC whenever I can, it makes me realise how bad my home location has become over the past 20 years with light pollution. I became Observing Director of CPAC in early 2020. Quite a step up for me and I have upped my game and learnt a lot in doing so.Local societies
