VOYAGER IMAGES & MOSAICS (BJORN JONSSON)

This page hosts views of Jupiter created by Björn Jónsson, from images taken by NASA’s Voyager spacecraft in 1979.   These five image sets have been posted, with full details of the methods, on Björn’s personal site [https://bjj.mmedia.is/images/index_new.html], and we are happy to provide a backup of them here.

They include colour images and mosaics, and some of the highest-resolution images, processed to a much better standard than was done at the time of the flybys.  Highlights include mosaics of the Great Red Spot by Voyagers 1 and 2 and also by the Galileo Orbiter in 1996.  These mosaics are not map-projected.  For Björn’s set of global Jupiter maps from Voyagers 1 & 2, please see the companion page on this BAA site.

______

This page contains a selection of images and photomosaics that I have processed from raw spacecraft imagery. Most of the images I have processed and consider to be of high quality are included here. Many of these images have previously appeared in various places on several websites, particularly the now-defunct Unmanned Spaceflight discussion forum, and some of them may no longer be easy to find. A few of them are reprocessed and improved versions of images that were originally released in 1979, but most have never before been processed in this way.

These days it seems necessary to explicitly mention that no AI was used in the processing of any of these images. Every visible detail originates from the original raw image data. No image content has been generated, added, or altered using AI.
