This page hosts colour maps of Jupiter created by Björn Jónsson, from images taken by NASA’s Voyager  spacecraft in 1979.  They have far higher resolution than any previous colour maps from Voyager images.  They have already been posted, with full details of the methods, on Björn’s personal page [https://bjj.mmedia.is], and we are happy to provide a backup of them here.

The hi-res imaging sequences by Voyager on Feb.27 and June 30 used only orange and violet filters, so a synthetic green channel was constructed.  For the June 28 Voyager 2 map, true green images were also obtained.  For all the maps, the colours were adjusted by computing synthetic R, G and B from the available data.

All the planetary maps available on these pages are publicly available. You do not need a special permission to use them but if you do then please mention their origin in your work, e.g. “created by Björn Jónsson” or something equivalent.

You are also welcome to link to the maps from your own website. However, please do not place a copy of the maps on your website. One reason for this is that from time to time I “upgrade” the maps with improved versions and I don’t want to have old, obsolete versions of my maps scattered around on the web.
