Vacancies: Computing Section Director and Handbook Editor

The BAA is looking for one or two volunteers to take on the honorary roles of Director of the Computing Section and Editor of the BAA Handbook.

These two roles may be combined or separate, depending on the level of commitment desired. They have been filled by a single individual in recent years, but this need not be the case.

The Director of the Computing Section is a member of Council and is responsible for the maintenance and development of the Computing Section webpages. They should also be able to provide advice to members on computational astronomy and sourcing of data. It is hoped that the Director will build a team that contributes to the website, Journal and Handbook.

The Handbook Editor collects data for the annual Handbook from contributors, lays out the publication in page design software, liaises with proofreaders to correct the product, and sees it through publication, dealing with printers and the BAA web team. They are responsible to, and work with, the Computing Section Director.

Neither of these roles attracts a salary, but all expenses will be paid. Training can be given in the software used to produce the Handbook. To have an informal chat about these opportunities, please get in touch with me via the Office.
