Hi,
The NLC season so far has been moderate. However there have been some good displays with nice features.
One display in particular ( 2014 June 26/27) appeared to have a very high speed easterly wind at the mesopause. A rough estimate using some geometry indicated a speed of around 100m/s (360kph/225mph). However with the air density at 82km being around 0.01mb it probably wouldn’t even ruffle your hair!
I can’t seem to cut and paste the youTube url but if you search for “NLC 2014 June 26/27” in youTube it should get you there.
cheers,
Bill.
