2025 October 10
Section meeting. Edinburgh. 2025 October 4.
The Comet and Meteor sections held a highly successful meeting in Edinburgh on 2025 October 4. My thanks to the speakers who gave a set of excellent talks and to the local society, the Astronomical Society of Edinburgh who did all of the local organisation and helped out on the day. Thanks also to the venue, Augustine United Church, for providing an excellent hall to hold the meeting in. This was right in the centre of Edinburgh within a few minutes’ walk of Waverley Station. The weekend’s weather ranged from “bracing” on the Friday night (actually torrential, horizontal rain) to warm and sunny on the Sunday morning.
The meeting was recorded and I’ll update this page when the recording is available online.
On the sunny Sunday morning we visited the City Observatory on Calton Hill where the 6-inch Cooke refractor was looking splendid. The building is an arts centre now but the telescope is well looked after and ASE still use it for public events.
My thanks to Neil Martin and Will Joy for these photos.
Edinburgh was a fantastic venue although this southerner was shocked at the price of beer…
