We are grateful to our hosts at York Astronomical Society. The city of York has a rich astronomical history; it is where:-
- John Goodricke and Edward Pigott did their pioneering work on variable stars
- Thomas Cooke had his factory making the famous Cooke telescopes, including the Newall telescope which was the largest refractor in the world at that time
- York Minster houses an astronomical clock.
If you are considering coming for an extended stay in York we recommend booking into one of the many hotels or B&B as soon as possible because York is popular with tourists.
