Small solar system bodies such as asteroids and dwarf planets have been attractingincreasing attention most notably with the recent flyby of Pluto by New Horizons, and the encounter with Vesta of the Dawn spacecraft, which is now in orbit around Ceres. This workshop is designed to show how Earth-based observers may contribute to the study of such small worlds using the latest technologies available to the amateur. Speakers will include Peter Birtwhistle, Roger Dymock, Richard Miles, Eric Watkins and others. Time will also be set aside for short (5–10 min) pre-arranged talks by members and others wishing to contribute on the day.
The workshop is FREE for BAA and Affiliated Society members, and accompanied young people under 16. There will be a small entrance fee for non-members of £2.50 to cover refreshments. Lunch (13:00 to 14:00) is not included as there are plenty of cafés & eating places close by.
