I have been dodging cloud banks sitting in the observatory this evening, so it gave me a chance to review my observing stats for 2025.

I found that I imaged on 78 nights this year. This is 21% of all nights (from 2005 to 2025 I observed on 29% of nights on average).

The best month was March (14 nights), then August (10 nights).

The worst month was Jun (1 night), but I was away from home much of the month doing handover tours before retirement on June 30.

During the year I made 5107 variable star CCD photometric measurements.

So not the best of years, but not a bad one either.

    How did others get on?

    Hi Jeremy,
    Happy New Year!
I calculate my observing stats on the basis of the number of nights that I actually observe as a percentage of the nights I am at home and potentially able to observe. During 2025 that was 35.8% which is up from 33.6 the year before. April and September where the best months with over 50% while July and October were the worst. A pretty average year on the whole.

Are occasional mobile smart telescope users allowed to participate? 152 nights (41.6%), best month May (24), worst February (4).

    Happy New Year!

    A better year than 2024 in Birmingham…

I had 129 observable nights, but only 16 where it was clear dusk to dawn.

Best month April with 17 nights, and worst (unusually) October, where I had 6 nights. Weather forecasts for my area were incorrect on cloud cover details for 50 nights throughout the year.

I made 9,196 visual Variable Star observations and 2,937 single shot CCD Variable Star measures throughout the year using a variety of remote telescopes around the world.
