My Journal arrived this morning and seeing Alan Heath’s article for the E&T Section on the story of his observatory is quite poignant as Alan unfortunately passed away peacefully on Tuesday 26th November 2024. Alan was 93 and was still observing the Sun any opportunity the clouds allowed, submitting observations to Lyn religiously.
I’d spoken to him two days before on the telephone and he was as bright and as intellectually active as always. It was a complete shock to hear of his passing which knocked me for six. However, Alan had such a fascinating life and achieved so much I can’t help but smile when I think about him.
The funeral will be on Tuesday 7th January 2025 at 11am at Bramcote Crematorium (NG9 3GJ), followed by a celebration of his life at The Hemlock Stone pub (NG8 2QQ) which is just 1 mile from the crematorium.
Alan’s daughter Karen is happy for me to pass her email address on to anyone who wants is, so do email me if you want to contact her.

An obituary will appear in the Journal in due course.
