My daughter is starting the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award. She needs to do a residential course (~5 days) next summer and quite likes the idea of doing one on astronomy, especially if there are practical aspects. She will be 16 and have completed her GCSE’s. Does anyone know of such a course? Perhaps a University?"When I was a lad" I went on a week’s course at the Somerset Schools Observatory where we got to use the 18 inch Fullerscopes Newtonian. Something like this would be ideal.Go well!Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,The only thing i know of in the UK is the Space School at Leicester.http://spaceschool.co.uk/There is also the International Astronomy Youth Camp which is in the Czech Republic in 2011 – but I think its a longer three week affair (but sounds pretty exciting!).http://www.iayc.org/Cheers, Callum

Don’t forget places like COAA in Portugal, great value and good equipment.
