While keeping a finger on the pulse of developments in amateur spectroscopy, I have been watching the recent progress made in spectroheliography, based around a 3D printed instrument the SolEx developed by Christian Buil and software from Valerie Desnoux.

From my admittedly limited experience in this field,(I made some crude attempt at it back in 2006 http://www.threehillsobservatory.co.uk/astro/spectra_29.htm )
there appears to have been significant progress in this area over recent years and results look impressive. It seems from this recent post on the SolEx forum

they are getting interest from professionals with potential for Pro-Am collaborations. Are any BAA members working in this area ?Cheers
