My favourite book of all time is Starlight Nights by Leslie Peltier. Peltier was a variable star observer and discoverer of novae and comets. This is the book that got me through ‘O’ Level Eng Lit I am a very slow reader and could never get through the set texts, which were usually tedious, but on one occasion we were allowed to chose a library book and write about it; that’s when I encountered Starlight Nights. I still read it at least annually.
Then this morning William Stewart, knowing my love for the book, kindly sent me the link to an S&T article looking into which variable stars Peltier was referring to near the beginning of the book. Thank you William!
I’ll let you read it: https://skyandtelescope.org/astronomy-news/the-mystery-of-leslie-peltiers-two-tiny-diamonds/
