An update is overdue. Major sections of the Espin telescope have been removed to a safe place away from the vandals and the Urban Explorers. We were able to recovery both the primary and secondary intact. The primary has suffered following twenty years exposed to the elements. The secondary, still in its protective cover, was as good as new.

We aim to recover the remaining Ash dome because it’s in good condition and will help with our fund-raising efforts, which are needed to cover the cost of the demolition of the domes and site clearance.

We will establish a CIC to help manage any costs and, of course, any donations.

So far, so good. I’ll post another update shortly.

    Best regards

    Good morning,

I am a member of the Espin Telescope Recovery Group – John Nichol, Caroline Sinden-Fuller and Denis Buczynski are also members. We have been working closely with Close House staff to recover the telescope and its optics. Yesterday, 25th September, we visited the site and were able to remove both the primary and the secondary mirrors. Both are now in the safe hands of John Nichol, ready for any remedial work.

We are also working with a well known facility in the North of England in the hope that the telescope will find a new home therein.
