I've been interested in astronomy for as long as I can remember; a visual observer on and off over the years and holding a PhD in astrophysics ("Numerical Simulations of Compact Groups of Galaxies" obtained in 1998). Current visual observing projects include: measuring the proper motions of 61 Cyg, Groombridge 1830 and mu Cas (I've successfully measured the first of these, the other two are ongoing); observing sub-arcsecond double stars using an interference mask; variable star observing as per the BAAVSS and also observing variable stars in globular clusters; lunar observing, which I've recently taken up at a basic level.
