Have been involved in practical amateur astronomy and involved with the local astronomical society since 1958. Have been a BAA member since 1969, and work from my backyard observatory just west of Brisbane Australia. My principal field these last 40 plus years has been the timing of lunar and to a lesser degree, asteroidal occultations, and considerable photography. Since 1976 I have also been involved in organising eclipse trips, and, now retired, together with my wife, between 2009 and 2018 spent some time each year lecturing on cruise ships. Setting up my observatory in 1980 my main instruments were 16" and 10" equatorial reflectors but in 2016 completed the transition to SCT's - now having, C14, CPC11, C9.25, C8 and more recently in 2018, a Celestron 150mm F8 refractor - replaced in 2020 by the equivalent 150mm ED Skywatcher. There are miscellaneous smaller instruments. With the SCT's as the main instruments I have gone over to 'The dark side of the force' but the change was mainly so I could avoid, then as a septuagenarian, (now an octogenarian) clambering around on ladders etc. In addition, in recent years I have been writing astronomical historical papers on the events and personalities in Queensland in years past.
