- 38A propos of the spectrographic results obtained by Mr. Lowell on the subject of the rotation of Venus (published in the " Bulletin de la Société Astronomique de France," of February), I should like to know if it would be possible to procure a copy, in English or French, of Belopoisky's results, which, I believe, are in conflict with those of Mr. Lowell. Were Belopoisky's results published for general information, and, if so, in what journal ?
- 37According to the American Astronomer the maria on the moon may have been produced by liquefaction by collision with bolides. Would not the position of the earth prevent direct impact on the moon and act as a shield, except from an oblique or glancing impact ?
- 37By what law or process does the determination of the distance of the earth from Eros determine the distance of the earth from the sun ?
- 37What is the rule for making charts of celestial objects on the conical projection, if possible, without the use of logarithms or the tr190nometrical functions ?
- 38Is it possible to get the correct time (within a minute) by the use of a 3-in. telescope, other than occultations, which appear to need a knowledge of trigonometry to work out ?
