Title

Graze Occultation of double star SAO93961 in Pleiades

About this image

This early morning graze of a 6.7 mag star (HU 1080) ocured at a favourable cusp angle of 6 degress (Northern Limit) with the Moon only 38% sunlit. The most interesting aspect was the double star. The telescope was set-up in a carefully planed location which was  hoped would reveal some interesting graze phenomena. I was not disappointed. On the light curve I have drawn a green line that represents the appearance of the fainter companion (while the brighter is occulted). The red line is both stars having appeared. The duration of all the contacts was 27 sec. Graze timings are sent to Japan for inclusion in the IOTA database.

( The vertical bands on this single frame have not affected the measurements)
