About this image

For once, an asteroid occultation that occurred at a civilised time in the evening! The image above shows the field in Aquila, with the target star being the brightest of the three objects in the small triangle above centre. The asteroid is the object immediately to its right. This image is a stack of 1 second exposures, taken just after 1900 UT, i.e. about 19 minutes before the event. The occultation was recorded using 0.2 second exposures, with the usual UV/IR cut filter removed from the camera to slightly increase the brightness. The light curves of the target and an indicated comparison star were plotted from measured image brightnesses on individual video frames. The grid lines are at intervals of 5 frames, and are therefore 1 second apart; the event lasted 5.6 seconds from my location.
