About this image
Tracie Heywood brought to my attention that the IMO has received many reports from observers in Scotland and northern England of a very bright meteor. I recorded it on my Leeds_N camera - composite JPG attached.
The meteor was detected when it was mag 3 passing under the Plough. Over the next 7 seconds it gradually brightened to mag 1 as it passed near the ghostly comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE), then it flared to mag -3.5, leaving a stationary component which faded over 2 seconds. The body continued as a mag 1 object until it disappeared below my local horizon.
It must have been a fine sight for any observer who saw it pass overhead.
