About this image

Just before midnight on 2020 Dec 19 the 72 km diameter mag 14 main-belt asteroid (333) Badenia  was predicted to occult a mag 14 star in Auriga. Observers within the 81 km wide shadow track could see them merge with a combined mag. of 13.5, then drop in brightness by 0.5 mag. for up to 6 s.
I was very close to the predicted centre line and I recorded a 5.1 s dip.
D - 23 50 31.10 ± 0.08 R - 23 50 36.22 ± 0.08

Michael O'Connell (Monasterevin, Ireland) was in the 1-sigma zone and recorded a 2.6 s occultation, so there was a path shift to the south. William Stewart (Cheshire) was thwarted by high thin cloud.

Our chords are logged in Euraster
I'm confident our timings are accurate, but they're not a good fit to the latest shape model (derived from light curve inversion). This is not uncommon, as shape models don't always match occultation chords until their profiles have been further refined.
