About this image

O'Neil's Bridge is an imagined natural bridge on the Moon only visible when the Moon is 18 days old.  It was 'discovered' by the Science Editor of the New York Herald, John J O'Neil, on 29th July 1953, using a 4inch f/15 refractor at 90x magnification.  O'Neil was clear to label this as a natural structure on the Moon but others saw it as evidence of a past lunar civilisation. Subsequently some amateur observers in England claimed to have seen the same feature.  As this image through my 14inch SCT at f/10 with a modern camera sensitive in infrared shows, there is just a natural thinning of the mountainous features on the rim of Proclus P at this point.  Or were there men on the Moon??....!
