Video astrometry of PHA (7482) 1994 PC1 - 2022 Jan 19

About this image

The evening of Jan 19 was my first opportunity to monitor this Potentially Hazardous Asteroid. Shortly after 18:00 UT its sky motion was measured to be 1.00"/sec in RA and 0.91"/sec in Dec, with an apparent magnitude of 11.1 R. Astrometry was submitted to the MPC.

David Dunham (IOTA USA) kindly supplied an occultation elements file and this was used in Occult and OccultWatcher to compute occultations of stars by the asteroid, generating 3 probable events of 10th mag stars from my location. Because of its small size (1 km) and fast sky motion, these events were very low probability with maximum durations of 0.1s. They were recorded at 1/50th sec video rates. In two cases the star and PHA merged, but so far no brief dip has been found in the data.
