About this image

Leo1 has to be one of the easiest galaxies to find - rather like NGC404 - but being a dim dwarf spheroidal and close to Regulus it isn't a astrophotographer's idea of a great combination.

In the 29minute exposure many individual stars are resolved, which is nice, and the shape is pretty clear too, but it was not a pleasure to process - most effort was spent trying to suppress the sky background gradients induced by altitude, distant Bournemouth and Regulus. A bit nicer than my first attempt at Leo1 in the 90s when I was happy to get a small and vague smattering of stars.

Always nice to see individual stars in external galaxies.
