About this image

This faint, diffuse elliptical galaxy is a member of the Andromeda Galaxy group and is situated in Cassiopeia. It was discovered by John Herschel in September 1829.

From a 60-minute exposure the image shows a faint, irregular shape with possibly a brighter nucleus. The boundaries of the galaxy are unclear.

Distance c.1.9-2.5million ly. Apparent size 13.2'x7.8', major axis c.8,000ly. Apparent mag. 9.5. 

Light cloud, no Moon.
