About this image

NGC660 was discovered by William Herschel in October 1784. The unusual configuration of this galaxy is probably due to interaction with another galaxy. Distance c.42million ly. Apparent size 8.2' x 3.2'. Apparent mag. 12.

IC148 (seen at centre-right at the top of the image) is probably a spiral galaxy. It was discovered by Lewis Swift in September 1890. Apparent mag. 13.

At least twenty other DSOs can also be seen, probably mostly galaxies.

This image was obtained remotely using the COAST (COmpletely Autonomous Survey Telescope) in Tenerife.
