About this image

Quadrantid maximum was predicted to occur during the night of January 3. The weather forecast was most unfavourable but a few clearer gaps formed in the early hours allowing my RMS and UFO cameras to record some of the shower.

This composite image from my SW-facing camera shows 22 meteors, 19 of which were Quadrantids. Their apparent magnitudes range between 0.2 to 3.2. Anyone under a clear dark sky would have seen a good display.

Quadrantid maximum only lasts about 6 hours, so rates will be significantly lower tonight (Jan 4).
