About this image

December was yet another month spent combatting clouds and rain. Geminid maximum was predicted to occur around 14:30 UT on December 14, so the nights of Dec 13/14 and 14/15 were expected to put on good displays. Conditions were favourable in the early evenings of both nights and my cameras recorded good numbers of Geminids as their radiant climbed the NE sky. Unfortunately, sky transparency deteriorated after midnight and the clouds rolled in, occasionally giving breaks through which only a few more meteors were recorded.

In December I captured 1,195 meteors (681 from 5 RMS cameras and 514 from 2 UFO Capture cameras). My combined tally for the month was 466 Geminids, 74 December Monocerotids, 72 Comae Berenicids, 61 sigma Hydrids, 17 December alpha Draconids and a few November Orionids, northern and southern Taurids, and Ursids, but no Quadrantids.
